I’m happy to say that I finished my daughter’s Bisquit top!! I’ve blocked it as best I can since I don’t have my blocking wires or blocking mats. While I’ve bound off the top I haven’t “cut the cord”. I still have the yarn attached in case I need to lengthen it once my daughter tries it on. I have never knit a picot bind-off before so another first. I’m not a babble fan but I do like this babble bind-off.
New Project – Sailormoon Sweater
So that means I get to cast on another project. I’ve decided to cast on a sweater for me even though I’m heading into summer. It’s another striped pattern, Sailormoon, although it has a lace bottom and the stripes aren’t straight across in the yoke. Swatching is not a quick activity for me. I spent yesterday and today just knitting this. It’s still drying so that I can measure the wet block gauge before I decide if I need to try different needles. Fortunately the main color and contrast color are the same yarn so I’m not planning to swatch both colors. The solid color is a deep purple with a beige speckles yarn as the contrast.
Advent Sock
I also added a strip to my Advent sock. I’m starting to think that I may only do colorwork strips on the leg. It seems a waste to do colorwork stripes on the foot. I don’t wear just socks around the house. So I’m thinking about making the foot just stripes of red, green, and white. Or maybe all white with a contrast heel and toe with the purple I have on the cuff. I want to do one more stripe of Christmas trees on the leg and then I’ll start the heel.
This is a year of projects (YOP) update. YOP is a Ravelry Group – make a plan for the year ahead for all your fiber activities, then update your blog every week. Plans can be calendar year (like mine) or mid-year start (like many). Following the plan is optional and creates some of the fun of posts. YOP is in it’s 10th year although I’m in my first in the group.
If you still wear slippers on your feet when you are on a sofa or chair on Christmas Day then I’d also be tempted to do a plain foot. It would mean your foot part won’t be as warm though because they’ll be single yarn thick, but at least they’ll fit in your shoes and slippers which can be another problem with colour work socks unless you have shoes that allow for a chunkier sock. The top is very pretty. The top looks lovely, I hope she likes it as is and you don’t need to undo your bind off.

Yeah, I was thinking about fitting into a shoe. I plan to wear these socks out and about, not as house socks. If I only do colorwork on the leg, I should have time to make another pair as a gift. 😉

Sounds a perfect plan then.

The top looks great! I love that color, and hopefully it’s a perfect fit for your daughter! The sailor moon sweater is going to be lovely in that purple, what is your contrast color going to be?

It’s hard to describe. It’s Pottery by Madelinetosh. I hope to have a picture of the stripes in next week’s post. Blocking finished and casting on the actual sweater today!!!

Your daughters sweater is so pretty. I hope she likes it. Smart move to leave the yarn attached incase it needs more length. The Sailormoon sweater is great. The purple you are switching with is so pretty too. Your advent sock……..wow! I am always impressed with colorwork and yours really impressed me to the limits! Not doing colorwork on the foot makes sense if you always have shoes or slippers on. But a contrast heel and toe would make them fun for when you put them on and take them off.

Thanks. That’s what I’m thinking too. I just don’t keep my floors clean enough to walk around in socks. 😜

Oh, that Bisquit top is so pretty. Can’t wait to hear how much your daughter likes it. And I love that lacey bottom on Sailormoon. Your socks are looking great, and what a great idea to make the foot part non-colorwork. Not being a sock-knitter, it hadn’t occurred to me the extra thickness that colorwork would add to the foot sections.

I’m excited about Sailormoon. I’m thinking about putting an inch or so of lace on the sleeves just below the elbow.

Your advent socks are lovely and I agree on not doing the colourwork on the foot that will be inside your shoes or slippers. They are still in my queue – probably waiting for advent. lol.

Watch out – I’m finding colorwork addicting. 🙂
