Actually the cicadas started appearing just before last weekend. They are out in full force now. All plants are covered with the nymph casings as well as the juvenile cicadas that are rapidly growing into adults. Fortunately the males haven’t started screaming by our house but literally just up the driveway, they are already screaming by our neighbors. Lucky us. 17 year cicadas are the loudest insect in the world.😖 Hubby gave me a mosquito net for my patio umbrella so I have a bug free outdoor space to knit all summer.
FO Anklets
I did finish my anklets made from the leftover yarn from my @agirlandherwool sample sock knit. Not a bad deal. I did learn that the Russian lace bindoff listed in my cast-on/bind-off book as stretchy is not stretchy enough for socks. Oh well. I also got my Fixation anklets done today!!!
TRAVELS
Visited my stepdaughter this weekend which is why I’m posting so late. Got to enjoy eating out which we never do at home since my husband prefers his own cooking. Evansville, IN is not exactly a hot tourist spot so she gets frustrated that we don’t make the 8hr trip more frequently. We split the drive over 2 days. Unfortunately I don’t get to knit on car trips due to hubby’s health issues. Car drives are just a waste of time for me.
Looking forward to working my my stepdaughter’s baby blanket this week and maybe casting on a new project!!

Knitting Is So Fun 
Oooh! Your screened in spot there looks wonderful! On my WL in our next house is either a sunroom or a screened in porch. Better yet, a sunroom with windows!
Probably won’t happen, but I can dream… Or, I guess, pop up a screen in the back yard! 🙂 Those are a great solution. Love the looks of those socks!

A screened room would be great. We really don’t use our deck as much as I would like due to bugs. No fun fighting flies. I do have a deck swing that I enjoy sitting in and knitting while listening to an audiobook.

Well your hubby is a keeper sorting the big free knitting space for you. I think I would also need to have a tunnel from the house to get me there bug free. I spy a lot of corks, that’s obviously a great place to chill out and relax. 😉. Your pairs of socks both look lovely, I haven’t heard of the Russian lace bind off. I am still to try toe up socks, maybe on my next YOP list.

Ha ha. You have a good eye. Yes we collect our wine bottle corks to use as mulch on the lower deck flower box. Starting to spread to the two other flower boxes that are near that deck.

It is very shady so it’s a great place to enjoy the trees and flowers. The weather yoyo is swinging back to hot so it will be great this weekend.

We have cicadas every year but usually not until the end of summer…maybe August? I guess they aren’t the 17-year ones. We don’t have any here right now…is it just a midwest thing? I don’t ever remember having that many where I had to screen myself in. That is a very nice screened-in area though! I adore your socks!!! My next pair is going to be shorties!

There are annual cicadas and we get those. 17 year cicadas are different and more numerous by a factor of 50!! Hence they literally cover almost every leaf of every plant as they shed their nymph casing and dry out to their wings. They are tremendously loud

I love hearing the cicada stories – not something I have where I live. I rarely knit on drives. Even though I don’t look at my knitting much it still makes me car sick. Glad to hear your trip went well. Yay for eating out!

No cicadas here in the desert. But I do remember them from when I lived in Kansas. Nice socks. The blue with orange stripes very striking. Glad you enjoyed your visit with your step daughter.

They really cause lawn problems because the moles feast on them as they rise back up from the tree roots. The 17 year ones are mainly in the midwest to northeast.

My spouse said the cicadas are INSANE in DC (where he works) but at our house, none yet. I was expecting them over the weekend, but it was unseasonably cool.
I love the screened knitting spot! It’ll be nice and shady and BUG free!!

Once they start coming out of the ground it goes pretty fast. Just started seeing a few last week and this week they are all over. I don’t really mind them since they are harmless.
